The Daquiri & Queen of Pentacles

The Daquiri & Queen of Pentacles

The Daquiri, start by gathering the following ingredients: 2-3 limes, 1/4 cup sugar in the raw, and your preferred type of Rum.
Some of my favorites are Appleton Estate Signature Blend, Cruzan Aged Light Rum, or Flor de Cana 4 year.
However, feel free to use your favorite brand. Each one will create a unique flavor experience.

Next, press play on the "KOKO' Playlist #19" button below and let the music set the mood.
While the first song plays, create a simple syrup by combining equal parts warm water and sugar.
Stir intermittently until the sugar has dissolved.

Now, it's time to juice the limes. You can use a citrus squeezer or the sheer power of your hand and the back of a spoon, fork, or knife. Simply hold one half of the lime in one hand and use the other hand to squeeze and twist the lime half around the utensil to extract the juice.

You have your mis-en-place, now lets make the delicious cocktail.

The Daquiri

2 oz Rum
1 oz *Simple Syrup
0.75 oz Lime

Combine the ingredients into your mixing glass, then add ice and shake with the passion and rhythm of your soul until well chilled. Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass or a fancy glass.

Garnish: Lime Wedge to be squeezed
Now relish the flavors as we discuss the Queen of Pentacles

Tarot Card - Queen of Pentacles - Created by Leah Pantia

Queen of Pentacles

In taking care of the simple things around me I cultivate an environment where I can thrive. For me, some of those simple things are sleeping, eating good food, making a fabulous cocktail, taking time to write and sketch and/or going to boxing classes. These things are all very good but there are times when good things are NOT what I want to do.
IE: I didn't want to go to boxing class the other day...why? I don't know.
Learning how to box has been one of my favorite things these days!
It is SOOOO fun, the movement and rhythm make me feel more alive and yet, the other day, my mind tried to convince me not to go even though it is ultimately what ended up giving me great joy after....and this is what the Queen of Pentacles invites us to remember.
Tending to the earthwork in which, if we were a plant we are taking care of the environment we are growing and doing all the things necessary for us to be alive and thriving in.
Let us bring it back to the cocktails.
The Daiquiri is an excellent example of a refreshing and invigorating drink that can revive and uplift the soul and invigorate the senses. It's a reminder to take a break from our busy lives and indulge in the simple pleasures that keep us thriving, just like we would encourage others to take a "time out" if they feel overwhelmed so the Daiquiri and Queen of Pentacles invites us to do the same. In fact, the term "Daiquiri time out" was coined by professionals at NYC's Death & Co. bar as a way of encouraging people to take a moment to recharge and tend to their well-being for a moment during a busy night.

Where is that for you? I would love to hear.
